This book is a long-overdue attempt to document the life and work of an artist whose contribution is central to understanding the evolution of modern Sudanese art —yet who remained largely unknown despite the remarkable body of work he produced over more than six decades. Tagelsir Ahmed remained unseen in his own country and equally so across the Arab and African worlds. The reason is simple: he chose a path he knew would never bring him the acclaim lavished on artists of far lesser stature. Nevertheless, he pursued that difficult road with unwavering conviction, indifferent to the cost of such a stance.
